A man has been taken to hospital after accidentally inhaling chemicals at a school in Medway.
The emergency services were called out to Abbey Court Special School in Strood after a chemical spill in the plant room of the building.
Firefighters, police and ambulances crews arrived at the school in Rede Court Road at about 10.30am.
The 48-year-old was suffering from breathing difficulties and was treated at the scene before being taken to Medway Maritime Hospital.
Ambulance spokesman Rich Airey said: "We were called to reports of a chemical incident.
"One male patient aged in his 40s was checked over at the scene and taken to the Medway Maritime Hospital. He was not thought to be in a serious condition.
"Crews worked quickly isolate the incident, which was contained to the plant room..." - KFRS spokesman
"He had accidentally inhaled a substance of some kind on site and was having breathing difficulties.
"We sent two ambulance cars, an ambulance and a Hazardous Area Response Team."
No children or teachers were in class at the time of the incident as the school currently closed for the Easter Holidays.
A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “KFRS were called to a chemical incident at Abbey Court Community School in Strood at 10.31am this morning.
"Four fire engines and specialist equipment were sent to the scene, with the first crew arriving within eight minutes of receiving the 999 call from the school.
"Only a skeleton staff were in the school at the time due to the Easter holidays and crews worked with them to quickly isolate the incident, which was contained to the plant room and allow the room to vent naturally.
"A 48-year-old man was taken to hospital for precautionary checks. Crews left the scene just before midday."
