A spokesman for the force said: “The victim, a man in his 20s, suffered injuries consistent with stab wounds and has been taken to a hospital for treatment.

“His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.”

A passerby who was out for a walk just before 7pm said he saw multiple police cars, ambulances and the air ambulance’s road vehicle in the surrounding roads.

He said both ends of the alleyway and the top of Gordon Road had also been cordoned off by officers.

Inquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and to identify those responsible are ongoing.
