Man suffers burns in kitchen fire in High Street, Rainham

A man suffered burns last night after his kitchen went ablaze.

Firefighters were called to an address in High Street, Rainham at 9.10pm after a man fell asleep while leaving the grill on, according to fire crews.

It is believed the man, thought to be in his 50s, burnt himself trying to put out the flames.

He was treated at the scene for burns and given oxygen therapy by fire crews before being passed into the care of paramedics.

Crews wearing breathing apparatus tackled the fire using a hose reel jet, and a ventilation fan was used to clear smoke from the property.

There are no reports of any other injuries.

Firefighters were at the scene for just over half an hour.
