Emergency services called to Rochester Cathedral following concerns for man’s welfare

Emergency services descended on a cathedral this afternoon.

Several police cars and ambulances were seen parked outside Rochester Cathedral at around 12.45pm by motorists.

They were called following concerns for the welfare of an injured man in the cafeteria area.

Officers and paramedics attended the scene where the man received medical treatment.

Crews were then joined by the Air Ambulance Charity Kent, Surrey and Sussex who airlifted him to Kings College Hospital, in London, for further medical treatment.

Chief operating officer at Rochester Cathedral, Simon Lace, said: “We had a medical emergency in the cathedral this afternoon and a man has been taken to hospital.

“The cathedral was closed while the emergency services cared for him. We are very grateful their prompt and professional assistance.”

The cathedral has since reopened.
