A major gym with about 3,000 members has been put up for sale today with a £3 million price tag.
Roko Health Club in Gillingham has been put on the market by its owners and shareholders.
Manager Sarah Marshall said: “We are standing strong. It’s business as usual.
“It only went on the market today and I’m sure we’ll be snapped up very soon.”
The fitness centre is on a three-acre site in Will Adams Way near the Bowaters roundabout.
It has two pools, gym, a beauty salon and spa room and offers a wide range of fitness classes.
The owners CSSC have also put their three other centres in Chiswick, Nottingham and York on the market.
In an email to members, Roko chairman Simon Lee said: “The reason for the sale of the business is that CSSC wish to focus on their core business of providing health and wellbeing benefits to their own members, and it is no longer part of their financial strategy to invest any further in Roko Health clubs.
“As the chairman of Roko Health Clubs, I believe that the sale represents a great opportunity for us to find new owners, who will put in the investment which I have been asked to make your experience at the club even better.”
Mr Lee said staff were informed about the decision yesterday (Wednesday).
Roko Gillingham is one of the most established fitness centres in Medway, opening about 20 years ago.
Savills estate agents is handling the sale of all four centres.
Mr Lee in his email said: “I wanted to thank you all personally for your ongoing membership and support, especially since the club re-opened following covid.
“In summary, I believe that this is really positive news for Roko, for members and staff.
“Thanks very much again for your support.”
