McDonald’s looks set to return to a Kent shopping centre.
The fast-food giant has applied to alter the shopfront at the former Bird restaurant at Hempstead Valley in Gillingham.
The unit, which is located next to Frankie & Benny’s, has been vacant since mid-December 2022 when the previous tenant, which specialised in chicken and waffles, ceased trading.
A change of use application was submitted in June so the site could be used as a takeaway.
McDonald’s had a branch at the shopping centre more than a decade ago, but moved out before it was renovated.
Medway currently has four other branches of the fast food giant – two in Chatham, one in Strood and another on the Medway City Estate.
The new plans include the relocation of the entrance and a new, access door.
The restaurant also want to put in its own heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment.
The shopping centre also has a Burger King, Nando’s, Greggs and Subway.
McDonald’s and Hempstead Valley Shopping Centre have been approached for comment.
