Daniel Evans of Medway and Maidstone AC finished first in the Cliffe Woods 10k on Sunday but did not win the incorporated Kent Championships.
The 33-year-old, pictured, was unsure of his form as the event approached and missed the cut-off for championship entries.
This did not stop him from racing through 3k in just over nine minutes and halfway in less than 16 minutes as he set about revising his personal best of 33.31.
There was further success for Medway and Maidstone with an M40 bronze for Gareth Williams (35.49).
Rona Loubser (37.42) of Folkestone Runners always had the women’s gold medal in her grasp. The younger masters’ podium was completed by Annabelle Stearns (39.25) of Gravesend Runners and Kerrie Clarke (39.39) of M&M who were among the 53 runners who finished in less than 40 minutes.
