Medway facelift must not create a Berlin Wall

In the first of six special reports Community Editor David Jones considers if 10 years of Medway Council has been good for the Towns.

WE’VE got to get ourselves on the map.

Medway is one of the largest places – if not the largest place – in the UK which you won’t find on any map because it is an artificial local authority creation.

Staring at my crystal ball, I believe that in 10 years Medway will be an extremely desirable location and a

“city” to be reckoned with.

But the gentrification of the more attractive parts of our Towns (the river in particular) must not create a Berlin Wall between the affluent new arrivals and the long-established residents. Everyone must benefit from the transformation we are now hearing so much about.
