A Maidstone man whose father was cut while being shaved by a nurse has been told that police will not press charges.

Investigations began after 78-year-old Thomas Gregg was left with multiple cuts to his face after allegedly being shaved by a member of staff at Medway Maritime Hospital.

Mr Gregg, of Thorndike Close, Chatham was admitted to the Gillingham hospital’s critical stroke unit after suffering a stroke in October.

On October 27, his son Bill, from Maidstone, visited his father in hospital and found him with multiple cuts across his face. He immediately put in a complaint to the police but has now been told the nurse in question will not be charged.

He said: “I think it’s absolutely disgusting that somebody in a position of trust and care can do that to an old age pensioner who is a critical stroke victim and cannot communicate.”

Police took a statement from Bill Gregg and said they would be following further lines of inquiry but now the case has been dropped.

Mr Gregg said: “I will be pursuing a civil prosecution. I will also be pursuing complaints against Kent Police and Medway Maritime Hospital. These people have put me and my family through hell.”

A spokesman for Medway Maritime Hospital said an internal investigation is being carried out.
