A Medway man is one of thousands caught up in delays after Eurotunnel closed its shuttle car service to new passengers.

Richard Rogers, from Blue Bell Hill village, near Chatham, said traffic was building up as Eurotunnel started turning people away.

He waited for two-and-a-half hours before giving up on continental Christmas shopping plans and heading home.

He said: "There's quite a few cars here now, they're holding at the reception area and not telling them come to the boarding area, a lot of them they're keeping back at the terminal building. They're not bringing them forward as there's no train to load them on to."

It comes as the separate Eurostar firm launched an inquiry into a series of breakdowns which left tens of thousands stranded in France.
