Hundreds gathered in Rochester to mark the two year countdown to the Olympics by running a mile around the town last night (Tuesday).
The Medway Mile's family and adult/elite races began outside the Cathedral, just beside Boley Hill car park, while the children’s events and the Finish line for all the events were within the Rochester Castle gardens.
About 2,000 people registered for the free event, organised by Medway Council.
The main race went up Boley Hill, across Vines Lane, down Crow Lane, through the High Street, back into Boley Hill, into Epaul Lane and then into and round the Rochester Castle gardens for the finish.
There was also music provided by Jazz Projects Big Band and Bloco Fogo, face painting and craft activities.
Rochester ultramarathon runner, Jack Denness, who completed a 135-mile run across Nevada's Death Valley earlier this month, opened the main race and gave medals to the winners.
He was given an outstanding sporting achievement award by Medway Council before the medal ceremony.
He said: "It was a great event that really brought out the communtiy spirit and helped people stay healthy and active.
"I'm extremely proud and honoured to have been awarded the certificate and was delighted to have been invited to play a part."
