Fresh from his thumping election wins in the general and local elections, Rehman Chishti has been given a role in the attorney general's office.
The Gillingham and Rainham MP, who was re-elected earlier this month, has been appointed as parliamentary private secretary to the attorney general Jeremy Wright. Mr Wright is a minister but attends cabinet meetings.
Mr Chishti, a qualified barrister, was previously private Secretary to Nick Gibb, Minister of State for Education.
He retained his parliamentary seat on May 7 against a challenge from previous Labour MP Paul Clark, increasing his majority to 10,530. He also remains a councillor on Medway Council where he was re-elected to Rainham Central with the biggest vote of any candidate.
His government appointment follows his Conservative colleague Tracey Crouch being named as sports minister in David Cameron's post-election reshuffle.
