Medway were knocked out of the Shepherd Neame Kent Cup at the first round stage after losing 43-19 at Deal & Betteshanger on Saturday.

Making 11 changes from the side that beat East Grinstead last week, Medway conceded four first-half tries as the hosts built up a comfortable 26-0 lead.

Deal threatened to run away with it as they scored two more tries, but Medway battled well and showed plenty of character.

In a sparkling 12-minute period, Medway scored three tries. The first was a set-piece which saw the strong-running Rob Ellis go over and Glen Wadsworth converted.

Paul Morrant then crashed over and Matt Wadhams finished well after good work from the Wadsworth brothers, Glen again converting to make the score 36-19.

Deal were stung into action and the final score of the match deservedly went to the home side out wide with them landing a difficult conversion.
