About a quarter of Medway's schools will be closed or partially shut on Thursday as teachers respond to the national strike call.

Twelve schools are now known to be closed, including the Bishop of Rochester Academy in Chatham, which will be shut for all except year 12s.

A further 12 primary schools and two further secondary schools will be partially closed.

Not all schools have yet declared whether they will be open or shut. Some head teachers are still trying to assess their staff's intentions.

Schools known to be fully open on Thursday include Cliffe Woods Primary School which becomes Medway's first primary school academy on Friday.

Open:

St Augustine of Canterbury; Cliffe Woods Primary; Rainham School for Girls; St Nicholas CE Voluntary Controlled; Thamesview Infant

Closed:

Greenvale Primary; Byron Primary; Halling Primary; Thamesview Junior; Riverside Primary; Hempstead Infant; Gordon Infant; Gordon Junior; Sherwin Knight Infant; St Margaret's Junior; Featherby; Thomas Aveling School (ICT rooms will be open)

Partially open:

Primary Schools: All Faiths' Children's Community : Nursery, Years 1 and 2, mixed Year 4 and 5 class and the nurture group all closed

Luton Juniors: Only Year 5 open

Horsted Juniors: Closed to Years 4 and 6

St Thomas of Canterbury RC : Closed to all pupils except Year 5 and 6 pupils not on the school trip.

St Mary's Roman Catholic Primary: Only Holly, Yew class and Birch classes open

Oaklands: Open except for Nursery Flamingos class, Year 1 Bears, both Year 4 classes and Year 5 Thompson

Balfour Junior: Open except for Years 3 and 4

Sherwin Knight Junior: Open except for Year 3 Spain, Year 4 Greece and Eire and Year 6 Jamaica classes

Elaine Primary: Open except for both Year 1 classes, class 3D and class 5M

Bligh Infants: Open but Years 1 and 2 and a reception class closed

Twydall Juniors: Open except for classes 4SH, 5SN, 6PW and 6AB

St Michael's Roman Catholic Primary: Open, except for classes 1VY, 2AS, 3SH, 4KM, 5MN, 5OK and 6LB.

Secondary schools:

Fort Pitt Grammar School: Only Year 7 only.

Chatham Grammar School for Girls: Open except for Years 7 and 8

Bishop of Rochester Academy: Open only for Year 12.
