Medway staged an impressive second-half comeback to win 32-19 at Whitstable in London 3 South East on Saturday.
The visitors created the first scoring opportunity after four minutes when good driving play saw Whitstable kill the ball in front of their posts and Glen Wadsworth kicked the goal to put Medway 3-0 ahead.
Medway uncharacteristically conceded 15 consecutive penalties, prop Sam Brice and second row Liam Weobley were sin binned within a minute of each other and last season’s top scorer Rob Ellis was forced to leave the field with injury.
Whitstable took full advantage kicking four penalties and racing into a 19-3 lead.
With Medway back to full-strength after half-time, Colin Chapman went over in the corner before young replacement Matt Wadhams finished a great team pattern with another try which Wadsworth converted to make it 19-15.
Wadhams forced the award of a penalty try which Wadsworth converted to put Medway ahead before a Wadsworth penalty extended the lead and a controlled drive saw Chapman touch down and Wadsworth convert to seal the win.
Gillingham Anchorians maintained their 100 per cent start in Kent 1 with a 15-7 win over HSBC while Sittingbourne made it three wins out of four with a 36-8 victory at home to Erith.
In Kent 2, Lordswood maintained their perfect start with a 10-5 success at Kings College Hospital and Old Williamsonians ran out 58-5 winners over Brockleians.
