Two Medway tourist attractions will star in a new BBC television drama starting this week.

The Crimson Petal and The White was partly shot at Eastgate House in Rochester and The Historic Dockyard, Chatham.

The psychological thriller has been adapted from Michel Faber's best selling novel.

The cast list includes British actor Richard E Grant and Gillian Anderson from The X-Files, alongside other familiar faces from the world of TV and film.

They include Romola Garai (who appeared in Emma and Atonement), Chris O'Dowd (computer geek Roy in the IT Crowd), Shirley Henderson (who played Moaning Myrtle in Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire), and Mark Gatiss (best known as a member of the comedy team in The League Of Gentlemen).

Scenes shot at the Dockyard include the Queen's Stairs, where a body is discovered on the foreshore, and a funeral scene using the Royal Dockyard Church, while Eastgate House becomes the setting for a brothel.

Filming took place in Medway last August. At the time, producer Steve Lightfoot told the Medway Messenger: "We're filming in Chatham and Rochester because of the fantastic and authentic period locations.

"I've had a great time and the local people have been extremely accommodating."

The series is scheduled to start on Wednesday at 9pm on BBC2.
