The new head of children’s services at Medway Council has said this year’s 11 plus exams went smoothly after moving back into primary schools.

Just over 2,000 children sat the tests in their own schools last week after the council gave them the option to change arrangements.

A consultation followed a catalogue of errors last year when parents complained their children had been disadvantaged because of delays and disruptions at secondary school test centres.

The majority of primaries (43) chose to hold the test in normal school hours on Tuesday and Wednesday last week, while the remaining 19 held the test also in their own schools, but on Saturday.

Barbara Peacock, pictured, who took over as director of children’s and adult services at Medway Council just days before the tests, said: “Clearly that was my first priority to make sure those tests went as smoothly as they could this year and I’m very pleased to say that as far as I know, it went well.”

Results will be posted or emailed to parents on Friday, October 5.
