Ken Livingstone has said an airport on the Thames Estuary would have 'disastrous consequences' for Medway.

Labour activists from the Towns joined the Labour’s mayoral candidate this weekend to campaign against the airport proposal championed by his Tory rival Boris Johnson.

Ken pledged his 100% support for the campaign to protect the environment of the Medway towns, in terms of noise, pollution and jobs.

This comes a fortnight after Labour's shadow transport secretary Maria Eagle MP visited the Hoo Peninsula to discuss concerns.

Ken Livingstone said: "I’ll oppose all proposals for a new hub airport in the Thames Estuary because a new Thames airport would decimate the West London economy and the 114,000 jobs reliant on Heathrow airport.

"You can't have two hub airports so close to one another.

"If I’m elected in May I’ll do everything within my power to stop this plan which threatens disastrous consequences for Londoners, and the people of Medway."
