A fire that left a bedroom smoke logged was caused by a melted extension cable, Kent Fire and Rescue said.
The blaze happened at a home in Pankhurst Road, Hoo, at about 2pm when firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to extinguish the flames.
Once extinguished crew manager Peter Harris praised the occupant for her actions in keeping the bedroom door closed upon discovering the fire.
"She did exactly the right thing in keeping the bedroom door closed when she realised there was a fire, and getting out of the house," he said.
"Because of her actions, the fire didn't spread to other rooms and the rest of the house was left spotless.
Upon inspection, firefighters discovered a melted extension lead wire, where devices were being charged, and this is believed to be where the fire started.
The bedroom was 100% smoke damaged and 20% fire damaged.
