Man and teenager on trial accused of gang-raping teenage girl in Gillingham

A drunk teenage girl was gang-raped after she went to a house late at night for what she thought was going to be a party, a court heard.

The 18-year-old said she was attacked by several teenagers and men. "It was one after the other," she claimed.

Two of the teenagers she alleges raped her, Ahmed Naeem, 18, and a 17-year-old, who cannot be identified, went on trial at Maidstone Crown Court today, assisted by an Arabic interpreter.

Prosecutor Amanda Hamilton said the girl had been out with her mother on October 31 - Halloween - last year to celebrate a birthday.

They later separated and when the girl did not return home in the early hours her mother became concerned and tried to contact her.

When she eventually arrived home at 4.30am with a teenage boy, her mother immediately saw something was wrong. She looked dazed and had lost her phone.

The girl declared: "I think I might have had sex." She dropped her pink bra on the floor before getting a beer from the fridge.

Miss Hamilton said the boy urged the girl to tell her mum the truth. She then told how they had met up with some men. One, she said, was good looking.

"Mum, it's all my fault because I went to the house" - the alleged victim

They invited them back to their place in Burnt Oak Terrace, Gillingham. She told her mother it was fuzzy.

"Soon after she arrived she told her mother the men were all over her," said Miss Hamilton. "She said: 'Mum, it’s all my fault because I went to the house. I am a slut'."

She wept and then fell asleep. Her mother went to the address and called the police from there.

When interviewed the next day, the girl said she had smoked some cannabis and had some alcohol before she went out.

She met up with some friends and they played snooker. She drank strong beer and Sambuca. Asked how drunk she was on a scale of one to 10, she said seven or eight.

A back calculation showed she would have been about twice the legal limit for driving.

After leaving a bar, she met a boy she knew in Gillingham High Street. They met up with some young men who invited them back to their place for a party.

The girl said soon after they arrived at the terraced house a "little midget with dodgy teeth" grabbed her arm and pulled her upstairs to a bedroom.

"She felt scared," said Miss Hamilton. "She knew she had to get herself out of the situation. She told the boy to leave her alone."

Another boy said: "Shut up. We will do what we want."

The court heard she told the teenager: "I can't do this." But he told her to take her clothes off. He stripped and as soon as she undressed he pushed her onto the bed.

The jury was told others then barged in as he had intercourse with her. She kept saying: "I can't do this". When he eventually stopped another man got on top of her.

Others stood in the doorway arguing about who would go next.

One man, whose accent she described as "Medway chavvy", is said to have told her: "I am going to sex you next," before touching her body.

The court was told another man came into the bedroom and cleared the others out. He undressed and raped her. She heard the others laughing.

When he had finished she grabbed her clothes, angrily barged past the others and went downstairs.

But there, another man picked her up and had intercourse with her. She was crying and "going mad".

"She was trying to get him off but at the same time trying to block out what was happening to her," said Miss Hamilton. "She found the strength to throw him off by grabbing his neck."

She pulled on her trousers but did not have time to put her bra on. As she left other men pulled and yanked at her.

Miss Hamilton said another man came out of nowhere and dragged the alleged victim back upstairs into the bathroom, where he tried to have sex with her but failed.

The girl started to hit out and headbutted one man. They were shouting that she could not go. She fled up the road with some of the men following her.

The 17-year-old denies two rape charges. Naeem denies one rape charge.

The trial continues.
