Mercedes car smashes into wall outside St John Fisher Catholic Church in Rochester

A church wall was destroyed after a car ploughed into it.

The vehicle reportedly lost control and collided with a wall outside St John Fisher Catholic Church in Rochester on Sunday morning.

The silver five-door can be seen among a scattering of bricks and lamp post left flattened by the collision at Canon Close.

A second vehicle also appears to have been involved in the accident, inquiries are ongoing to determine exactly what happened.

Witness John Haynes said: “A car turned into Canon Close, mounted the pavement and took the lamp post and brick wall done.

“There was another vehicle involved.”

A police spokesperson added: “Kent Police was called at 11.12am on Sunday 26 August to a collision involving two cars and a lamp post in Cannon Close, Rochester.

Officers attended the scene where no injuries were reported.”
