A town crier wants to hear from people whose family members lost their lives during the First World War.

Rochester favourite Mike Billingham is encouraging relatives to get in touch with him so he can read out their names.

The Chatham resident, who has been Rochester town crier for more than a year now, will carry out the special act on Monday.

He said: "If I can just get 20 to 25 people to send me the names of their grandparents that would be great.

"I'd like them to be family members or soldiers who people know were from Medway.

"Then on Monday, on remembrance day, I'm planning to go to the war memorial in Rochester at 11am before the minute's silence.

"Hopefully people will come along to hear me call out their names."

Since taking on the crier role from former crier Robin Burfoot, Mike has taken part in competitions across the country.

He can also be heard shouting messages during Rochester festivals such as Dickens and Sweeps.
