A motorcyclist has died after being involved in a crash.
The 45-year-old man, who has not been named, was airlifted to hospital but later died of his injuries.
The accident happened at about 11.45am on Saturday at the junction of Mierscourt Road and Lonsdale Drive in Rainham.
It involved a motorbike and two cars.
Police closed Mierscourt Road between Cherry Tree Road and Harvesters Close while paramedics treated casualties on the scene.
The Kent Air Ambulance landed in a nearby field and took the motorcyclist to King’s College Hospital in London which specialises in treating head injuries.
A 41-year-old man, who was a passenger on the bike, was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital by land ambulance. His condition was described as serious but not life-threatening.
The driver and passengers of the two cars were not thought to have been hurt.
The road remained closed until 5pm while Kent Police’s serious collision investigation unit examined the scene.
Heather Mahdi, who lives a few doors away from where the accident happened, said: “I heard two bangs and came out to see what had happened. The driver of the bike was lying in the road and the passenger was on the other side. Someone said they had seen him flying off his bike .
“I have lived in this road since 1973 and there have been so many accidents here.”
Anyone who witnessed the crash and may be able to help police with their inquiries is asked to contact the serious collision investigation unit on 01622 798538.
