Motorist, Anatolijs Dedovs, 29, from Essex, charged after crashing into wall in Maidstone Road, Chatham

A motorist has been charged with dangerous driving after he crashed into a wall and another vehicle on Friday.

The 29-year-old man was initially taken to hospital suffering from minor injuries, after the collision on Maidstone Road, Chatham, shortly before noon.

The incident, near Homebase store on the Horsted Retail Park, resulted in huge delays.

Witnesses reported erratic driving by the Audi convertible before the smash.

Others also said the car was travelling on the wrong side of the road when the smash happened and people living in the area said it left the area gridlocked.

A pensioner from Walderslade reported the crash had caused traffic in the village to come to a standstill and others were stuck on Chatham-bound side of Maidstone Road near the Asda store with traffic going nowhere.

A police spokesman added: “Anatolijs Dedovs, 29 years-old, from Basildon, has been charged with dangerous driving, assaulting a police officer, and assaulting a designated person (custody staff).

“He has been bailed to appear before Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on March 29."
