The closure of a motorway slip road which has been causing traffic chaos could go on for another week.
Since Tuesday (September 12) the M2 London-bound exit at J2 towards the A228 Sundridge Hill (Strood/Rochester) has been shut as repair works to fix sections of the bridge joint on the Medway Viaduct have taken place.
One of the three lanes has also been closed after J3, heading towards J2.
Traffic has been heavy since the closure with tailbacks being reported almost daily.
It was hoped the works would be completed overnight on Tuesday but they were delayed by another night as the correct parts were not delivered in time.
Now National Highways has said the closure may continue late into next week.
A spokesman said: “This is expected to remain the same until our contractors have the parts, which are being sourced from abroad and aren’t expected to arrive in the country until late next week.
“The closures remain in place while National Highways contractors assess the infrastructure defect.
“Any repair will be done overnight when traffic levels are lowest.”
