The Sun has published a clarification after claiming MP and sports minister Tracey Crouch helped get England manager Sam Allardyce the sack.
The newspaper claimed the Chatham and Aylesford MP put pressure on the FA to give the disgraced football boss the boot.
It is reported that she contacted chief executive Martin Glenn about Allardyce's future after the Daily Telegraph allegations came to light.
The MP tweeted earlier: “The only thing that is accurate in this @SunSport article is my name & title!!! The rest is so wrong it is libellous”.
And today the newspaper published a clarification, stressing no contact was made until after the decision about Allardyce's future had been taken.
Allardyce and the FA agreed to a mutual separation this week, following a Daily Telegraph undercover investigation.
He had been in charge of the England side for just 67 days.
Reporters, acting as businessmen from a Far East sports management company, filmed Allardyce apparently agreeing to a £400,000 deal and offering advice over how to negate the rules surrounding third party ownership of players, which is outlawed by the FA and FIFA.
