New social homes have been unveiled by a town’s MP as part of a wider regeneration scheme.
The development in Hampshire Close, Chatham has seen three derelict garage sites transformed into 24 affordable homes.
MP for Chatham and Aylesford, Tristan Osborne cut the ribbon at their grand unveiling as he was joined by Mayor of Medway Marian Nestorov, and mhs homes chair Nigel Hopkins.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Osborne said: “It’s been such a heartwarming experience to be here today, meeting some of the families who have moved in and welcoming them to our community.
“We know there’s an urgent need for more social homes in the local area, and I’m looking forward to working with mhs homes towards our shared goal.
“When people have the security and stability of a decent, safe and genuinely affordable home, they can get to know their neighbours, put down roots and be part of the community they’re living in.”
mhs homes put on refreshments and activities including face painting and a free coffee cart.
Its chief executive Ashley Hook added: “Social homes are good for individuals and good for communities, and we’re committed to increasing the supply of affordable homes for those who need them most.
“As one of north Kent’s largest social housing providers, we’re continuing to invest in the Medway area, building high-quality homes that give people the stability they need to thrive.”
