They arrived at the property where they found the body of man, in his 60s.

A large police presence was spotted in the town after the discovery last night and two police cars and two more forensics vehicles remain stationed outside.

Our reporter at the scene said: “The left side of the flat block above is taped off.

“Looks like forensics are inside the Newark Court building.”

A police spokesman said the death is being treated as suspicious and a murder investigation is underway to establish the circumstances.

A 42-year-old local woman, who was known to the victim, was arrested in connection with the incident at around 4am. She remains in custody.

One woman, who lives in the same block, said: “The police turned up and were banging on his door since around 12am.

“One police officer asked id I’d seen him but I said not for a few days, which is odd as he’s seen every day coming and going.

“Around an hour or two later they rammed the door through. They taped the block off and arrested a woman.”

Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is urged to call Kent Police on 01634 792209 quoting reference 25-1283.
