A 28-year-old man is to go on trial in August accused of murder in Northfleet.
Harry Harris was arrested after officers were called to an address in Hamerton Road at 2.46am on February 4.
He appeared via prison video link at Maidstone Crown Court after being charged with murdering 44-year-old James Webb.
The brief hearing had to be switched to another court room after problems with the video link.
After a series of unsuccessful attempts, a prison officer appeared and held a note to the screen which read: "I can see you but I can't hear".
Judge Adele Williams then switched courts and Harris, of Stanway Close, Chigwell, appeared to formerly identify himself.
He is expected to plead not guilty and claim self-defence during the trial. Mr Webb died as a result of stab wounds.
Harris was arrested in Chelmsford and remanded to HMP Elmley until the plea and trial preparation hearing next month, when he is expected to formerly enter his plea.
