A pensioner who lost his lifeline watch while on his way to send it for repair has had it returned to him - in working order.
Morris Saxby-Taylor, 84, said his faith in human nature has been restored after someone found the parcel and posted it to be fixed.
The former RAF telegraphist relies on his £40 talking watch because he is partially sighted.
Just over a week ago he put it in an addressed package to send off for repair.
He placed it on the front basket of his mobility scooter on his way to the post office in Gillingham High Street. But when he arrived he realised it had fallen out en-route. Despite retracing his steps, he could not find his lifeline.
Mr Saxby-Taylor said: "It was very windy that day. In fact, there were gale force winds.
"I guess it just came out of the cage on the front of my scooter. I asked a couple of people on the way back if they had seen it, but they had not. I told them to post it if they did come across it."
Mr Saxby-Taylor, who has lived in Dial Road, Gillingham, for more than 30 years, almost gave up hope of ever finding the watch again.
He said: "I couldn't believe it when my wife Betty went to the front door and said she thought my watch was back.
"I was elated to have it back and was pleased to think there are good samaritans out there.
"The person who found it must have posted it for me as it was all repaired. I'd just like to say thank you to that person. I'd like to buy them a drink if possible - my faith in human nature has been restored."
