The owner of the Medway-registered yacht seen drifting off the Kent coast has been found.

A Kent lifeboat discovered the Marie Celeste-like vessel off Whitstable.

On inspection the crew found the craft with its cabin locked and an anchor chain overboard but unattached to a mooring or anchor and showing signs of having broken adrift.

The lifeboat towed the craft to a mooring off Whitstable on Sunday.

The owner of the yacht, who comes from Ashford, has now been contacted and has confirmed his vessel had broken adrift from its mooring at Hollowshore at the mouth of Faversham Creek.
