A new gym could soon be opening at Gillingham Business Park if plans get the go-ahead.
The new facility could be built in Crusader Close after plans were submitted to Medway Council for change of use from a business unit into one for leisure use.
Documents submitted to the authority propose the site, west of Ambley Road, be changed so the unit can become a Crossfit gym.
Crossfit is a type of fitness which incorporates weighlifting and gymnastics and if plans are granted, specialist weekly classes could be staged there.
The proposals are to change the single story building, formerly an electrical wholesaler, which closed down September 2012, into the new gym.
Because of the specialist type of fitness regime used in Crossfit, the building needs to have a large floor and internal space and ceiling height.
The Crossfit model is based around a series of classes with about 12 to 16 people attending with one of two trainers.
It is hoped it will be open from 6.30am to 9pm from Monday to Friday and 8am to 5pm Saturdays and Sundays, and hold sessions on an hourly basis.
Developers not only want to run the specialist classes for adults, they also plan to include a gymnastics class for children and a Crossfit kids session run on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The new gym is set to include a pull up rig, gymnastic rings, rope climbs, a few heavy machines and fixed weights.
The nearest other Crossfit gyms are in Northfleet, Ashford, Canterbury, Thanet and Dover.
Crossfit Medway has been in business in The Brook, Chatham since 2011 and is the most established Crossfit gym in the county and has seen some of its members compete at national level.
It is expected the matter will be decided by planners in March.
