A new mum is gearing up to put on boxing gloves and step into the ring to raise money for a cancer charity.
Alice Scutchey, 26, has had just eight weeks to train for the Ultra White Collar Boxing match before competing at Priestfield Stadium in Gillingham tonight.
The personal assistant decided to take up the challenge to raise money for Cancer Research UK while on maternity leave after having her son Luca, who is now six months old.
Ultra White Collar Boxing is one of the charity’s biggest fundraisers and raised more than £2 million last year.
Mrs Scutchey, of Dean Street, East Farleigh, said: “I am a new mum with lots of wobbly bits so I must admit, I’m very scared. But it’s a challenge that I couldn’t refuse and more importantly, it’s to raise money for a fantastic charity.
“I’m one of those people that does just jump into things. I’m a complete beginner and I’ve had eight weeks to learn the basics, get in a reasonable shape and mentally prepare myself to be punched in the face.”
Mrs Scutchey is one of four women and 22 men competing in the charity matches at the black-tie event. She will face fellow beginner Kate Anderson.
She said: “I’m more nervous about walking out in front of all my friends and family than the boxing itself. It’s a charity match so they’re not going to let you get hurt. It’s the taking part rather than the beating someone up.”
So far she has raised more than £2,000. “At least if I don’t win the fight hopefully I can be the biggest fundraiser,” she added.
