Gillingham haven’t made a bid for Chelmsford hot-shot Shamir Mullings, according to boss Justin Edinburgh.
The Gills have been linked to the 6ft 5inch striker by various sources, along with a host of other clubs, including League 1 rivals Peterborough United.
Forest Green Rovers are also understood to be looking at the 14-goal striker after seeing their huge lead at the top of the National Premier wiped out in recent weeks, losing top spot to Lincoln City on Tuesday night.
Edinburgh is keeping tabs on a number of non-league strikers but it doesn’t look like the Gills will be getting involved in a race for the 22-year-old's signature.
Gills boss Edinburgh, who knows the Essex non-league scene inside out, said: “I went and watched Chelsmford at the start of the season, being a club on my doorstep and playing on Monday nights.
“I saw him (Mullings) and he looked raw, he looked a handful and he has had a good start to the season.
“I have seen him play but, no, we haven’t made a bid for him.”
The Gills currently have four senior strikers on their books, along with 19-year-old Greg Cundle, who has himself scored plenty of goals while on loan at non-league clubs. Another young forward, Noel Mbo, has impressed with the youth team.
Gillingham boss Edinburgh, meanwhile, rubbished rumours he was in for Woking striker Gozie Ogwu, who bagged himself a hat-trick last weekend.
Edinburgh said: “We have a lot of people out watching games. I saw him play at Reading and Yeovil, me and my staff try and watch a lot of non-league games.
“We have our eye on all levels. We know they are out there and they are playing. People I suppose see that we have tickets put on the gate and two and two becomes six. We are fully aware of him but he’s not on our radar.”
