Emergency services in search at Riverside Country Park, Rainham, for missing terrier, Lucky.

Emergency services were called out to mud flats yesterday afternoon to join a search for a missing dog named Lucky.

It is thought that his owner called for help after the terrier got stuck in the mud at Riverside Country Park, Rainham.

The fire brigade and the coastguard were called at 4:30pm and searched the park and the area around Sharp's Green for three hours, before calling off the search at 7:10pm.

Although the search ended with no sign of Lucky, Richard Rogers from Medway coastguard said Lucky was found late last night.

A spokeswomen from Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: "We worked with the owner to try and locate the dog but no visual contact was made with the dog."

A fire engine from the Medway station, the water safety unit from Larkfield, and the fire launch boat all helped with the search.

She said that their response to the call out was in the interests of public safety: "There would have been the risk of the owner or other members of the public entering the mud to try and search."
