A woman left with severe bruising after a fight at a children’s play park has criticised the police for their lack of action.
Charlotte Bruce, 30, was injured during an altercation with a group of around 15 at The Strand, Gillingham, on Monday, last week.
She and her teenage sister were badly bruised as a result, and despite arrests and a video of the fracas going viral, nobody has been charged in connection with their injuries.
Police say there was not enough evidence to prosecute.
Medway district commander Chief Inspector Rob Marsh said: “All available evidence was reviewed and assessed.
“This included a short video which had been shared online, however, it only captured a small fragment of the disturbance and therefore was insufficient to provide value to the investigation.
“Investigators reviewed an account given by the complainant which had been recorded on an officer’s body-worn video and it was determined an evidential statement was not needed at that time.
“Police at the scene detained three women. Two women were arrested on suspicion of affray but released without charge and the investigation has been filed, pending further information.
“Christine Tientcheu, 40, of Beatty Avenue in Gillingham, has been charged with assaulting a constable, has been bailed and will attend Medway Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, August 22.”
Mrs Bruce, her two boys, seven and 10, and her younger sister Olivia, 14, were leaving The Strand when they decided to have one last turn on the zip wire.
There was a big queue as one youngster was not letting others take a turn.
Mrs Bruce said: “I asked the little boy if my son could have a quick go, and he agreed. Suddenly, his mum got up in my face and started having a go at me.
“I felt really intimidated so I decided to walk away with my seven-year-old but I realised my other son and sister were still in the queue.”
She says a girl then began harassing Olivia and pushing her. Mrs Bruce says she tried to separate the two girls when a group of women set upon her.
Mrs Bruce said: “They were kicking me on my front and back; I was surrounded.
"I fell to the ground and they started stamping on me..." - Charlotte Bruce
“They pushed me back to the metal fence. I fell to the ground and they started stamping on me.
“Finally, the police came. They did not take us away from the scene and the group were shouting that they wanted to stab and shoot us.”
Later that evening Mrs Bruce and Olivia were taken to Medway Maritime Hospital.
Olivia was taken for x-rays and put in a neck brace. Both escaped serious injury but were heavily bruised.
