A popular leisure spot will not welcome any visitors this year.
The Strand swimming pools, a seasonal attraction in Gillingham, will remain shut throughout summer due to safety and the difficulty surrounding social distancing.
A statement from Medway Council today reads: "We have taken the difficult decision not to open the leisure pool or paddling pool this year as it would be difficult to put social distancing measures in place to help keep residents safe and stop the virus from spreading."
The facility off Pier Road usually opens now and closes at the start of September, welcoming thousands of visitors to the Towns' only open air pool in that period.
The country park remains open.
All of Medway’s sports centres are closed in line with government advice.
The council says it will continue to follow government advice on the reopening of sports centres.
Cllr Howard Doe, head of Medway Council’s community services, said: “We understand this decision will be disappointing for residents and visitors, however the safety and wellbeing of our customers is our top priority.
'Unfortunately, due to the layout and popularity of the leisure pools it would be difficult to put social distancing guidelines in place. I would like to thank residents for their understanding at this time and we look forward to welcoming you back to the Strand swimming pools next year.”
