FIREFIGHTERS in Medway have been called to two incidents caused by people leaving on their cooking.
One man got a shock when he returned to see crews at his home in The Close, Rochester. They had been called by a neighbour who had seen smoke coming from the property at noon yesterday (Monday).
A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service, said: “There was no real fire, just a lot of smoke.
“We make sure the home is well ventilated by opening the windows and we make sure the items which were burnt are out of the house.
“There was no permanent damage.”
Strood firefighters were called out two hours later when another man locked himself out of his home in Princes Street, Rochester.
The man, who has not been named but is in his 20s, was helped after his front door slammed on him before he could get back inside.
A spokesman said: “We were happy to help out on this occasion before the food started to smoke.
“He was very grateful for the assistance.”
