Motorists are set to face yet more traffic misery with a 16-mile stretch of motorway to close overnight this weekend – and replaced with a 60-mile diversion.
The M2 coastbound will be shut between Junction 4 for Gillingham and Junction 7 at Brenley Corner on Sunday at 8pm until 6am the next day.
A temporary works barrier will be removed and the road will be resurfaced at Junction 5 for Sittingbourne.
Work began on October 31 to replace the safety barriers on the slip roads at this junction.
A signed diversion route will be in place from Junction 3, via the A229, M20, A20 and A2 to Junction 7, Brenley Corner.
It comes amid a number of other major road closures causing havoc across the county.
The coastbound M2 slip road at Junction 5 for Sittingbourne is set to remain shut until January 13 amid a £92 million scheme to build a flyover at Stockbury roundabout.
Each weekend up until Christmas the Sheppey-bound A249 between the roundabout and Bobbing will also be shut for the same project.
And two lanes of the Chatham-bound A229 on Blue Bell Hill could be shut for up to seven weeks for gas works.
It has been causing long rush hour tailbacks after work started on Monday.
