Medway CLIC Sargent group Danny’s Angels is aiming to reach its £100,000 fundraising milestone this month after launching its Paint the Town Pink campaign.

The charity’s chief executive, Kate Lee joined Danny’s Angels for the launch of their month-long fundraising drive last Thursday at Medway Maritime Hospital.

CLIC Sargent is the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people and the new campaign coincides with UK Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Danny’s Angels have raised more than £85,000 for the charity since 2011, and 2014’s Paint the Town Pink saw the group run a series of successful bucket collections across Medway and North Kent throughout September, raising £17,000.

Kate Lee, chief executive of CLIC Sargent, said: “We can’t thank the volunteers from Danny’s Angels enough for all their hard work to make the Paint the Town Pink fundraiser possible. It’s heart-warming to see how many local people and businesses have backed their drive too. The vital funds that they will raise will help us to support local young people with cancer and their families.”

Bernadette Stevenson, who helped set up Danny’s Angels almost five years after losing her son Danny to cancer in 2009, said: “This year we plan to go bigger and better. Between September 1 and October 21 we will be in High Streets, supermarkets and shopping centres doing bucket collections across North Kent.

"We’re also holding a moonlight memory walk, an afternoon tea, a charity ball, and so much more.”

Fellow Danny’s Angels member Dan McDonald added: “We are really pleased with the support we’ve received from local supermarkets and shopping centres who are allowing us to do the bucket collections on their premises, including Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, Dobbies, Wilko and Hempstead Valley.

"We’re so grateful for their support and hope that their customers and the wider public will get behind Paint the Towns Pink to help us reach £100,000.”

Dozens more shops, pubs and cafe will also have pink collection tins in their shops for people to make donations and the public are being encouraged to wear something pink for the charity’s Pink Promise Day on Friday, September 23.

Danny's Angels has also launched its own 'caraoke' - similar to James Corden's Carpool Karaoke sessions on the Late Late Show.

People are being encouraged to record themselves singing along to their favourite song in the car, then post it on Twitter or Facebook and donate £5 to the charity.
