The pair, who are both of Queen Mary Avenue in South Woodford, London, were issued fixed penalty notices but failed to pay.

On Thursday, June 15, they attended Maidstone Magistrates’ Court and were each fined £120 and ordered to pay £250 and a victim surcharge – totalling £418 each.

Cllr Tris Osborne, Medway Council’s portfolio holder covering enforcement, said: “We know that the majority of residents love where they live and do their bit to help keep Medway clean and tidy.

“We will not let the minority of people ruin their hard work.

“There is absolutely no excuse for littering – it is completely unacceptable and it will not be tolerated in Medway.

“Littering is a criminal offence and we will continue to prosecute offenders.”
