A group of primary school leavers have been left devastated after the party bus organised to collect them from school on their last day cancelled at the last minute.
The Year 6 pupils at St Thomas of Canterbury Catholic Primary School, in Romany Road, Twydall, had created a play list and were excited to spend two hours on the bus tomorrow playing games and listening to music before attending an end-of-school disco at the village hall.
But with just two days until their last day of primary, the children’s parents – who had booked the bus a year ago – were told the company had no driver and the bus would not be coming.
Gemma Hardcastle’s son Harvey is one of the 27 pupils who were looking forward to the fun.
Gemma, from Gillingham, said: “It is so sad. They have had such a difficult year with a number of teacher changes. This was the one thing they knew was definitely happening and were looking forward to.
“Us mums feel so guilty because we booked it. It’s disgusting.”
To add to the disappointment, the other leavers’ class has booked limos to pick them up from school.
Gemma said: “We went for the bus option and now our children are going to come out of class for the last time and watch the other class being driven off in limousines.
“It’s so sad.”
Gemma said her son does not normally get upset but this had really affected him.
“He’s absolutely devastated,” she said. “They all are.”
But all is not lost as the mums have worked hard to find an alternative celebration for the youngsters.
She said: “It’s been so stressful. We are going to take them to the park and have some fun and then we have booked for them to go to a trampoline park.”
Gemma said the mums were furious when they were told they would only be refunded half of the £800 they paid.
However, after bombarding the company with complaints, they were given their money back in full.
The parents are still hopeful for some lavish transport to collect the class on the last day and are appealing for anyone who can help to get in touch.
They put out an appeal on kmfm this afternoon.
