A peacock has been spotted in an unlikely place – perched on top of a toilet cubicle.
Susan Wilsher noticed the animal in the women’s toilet block at Capstone Country Park in Chatham on Friday morning (December 27).
She explained: “When I walked into the loo it was sitting on top and I thought ‘oh, what’s that’ and then when it turned I was shocked.
“I went and did my business and chatted to him.
“I went for a walk and then finished and I went back into the toilets and that’s when he was standing up on the top of the cubicle.”
Susan, who lives in Lordswood, posted about the sighting on a local Facebook group, where many people suggested he was looking for an escape from the cold.
She added: “My husband and I said we didn't think there were any peacocks in the park but after posting it online apparently there’s one down by the recycling centre – it could possibly be the same one.
“I’ve seen them when you go to National Trust places but you wouldn't expect to see one here.
“It was a bit of a shock. I think some people would have freaked out a bit but he’s not going to hurt you.”
It’s not the first time a peacock has popped up in an unusual place.
In April, we reported how a rowdy peacock who had been roaming the streets and hopping onto houses and fences in Gravesend for more than six months had finally been rescued.
It was later taken to The Retreat Animal Rescue Farm Sanctuary in High Halden, Ashford, and introduced to other peacocks and peahens who live there.
Then in July, another peacock, which had been roaming the streets of Vigo for around a year, was also rescued and rehomed.
The bird, affectionately dubbed Rodney by the community, had become a familiar and welcome sight in the village where he was often seen on driveways and roofs.
But after sightings of a skinny Rodney wandering onto roads, and reports of him being catapulted by children, he too was rescued.
