A 79-year-old man charged with murdering his wife has appeared in court and been released on bail.

Alan Thomas, of Deanwood Drive, Gillingham, is accused of drowning Winifred Thomas at their home address on May 9.

A post mortem examination has revealed that Mrs Thomas, 77, died as a result of drowning.

Mr Thomas is next due to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on 30 July.
