Kent Police issue appeal for witnesses after the death of a 67-year-old driver who lost control on A278 Hoath Way, Gillingham

Police have issued an appeal for witnesses after a 67-year-old man died when his car overturned on a busy road.

Officers confirmed the man, from West Sussex, died at Medway Maritime Hospital last night after the crash in Hoath Way, Gillingham, on Friday just before 8pm.

The driver suffered serious injuries when his Ford Focus came off the road and mounted a grass bank before it ended up on its side.

Investigating officer PC Simon Masterson said: "At around 7:52pm a blue Ford Focus was heading from Bowaters Roundabout, Rainham towards Hempstead on Hoath Way.

"Then, for an as yet unexplained reason, the 67 year-old man lost control of his vehicle.

"It left the carriageway to his nearside, mounting a grass bank before then overturning into the driver side. No other vehicles were involved.

"Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit have attended the incident and are appealing for any witnesses to make contact with them if they haven’t already spoken with officers."
