Witnesses are being sought today after a man in his 70s who crashed his car in the Twydall area of Gillingham has died.
The pensioner, who is thought to have collapsed at the wheel, hit a road sign in Wingham Close at around 4pm yesterday.
The driver, who was alone in silver Ford Fiesta, was taken to hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Kent Police said it is not yet known why he came off the road - and officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
Officers sealed off roads in the immediate area, including Beechings Way, Goudhurst Road and Milstead Road.
Seven police cars were spotted at the scene after the accident, which involved only one vehicle.
One witness said they heard a crash before cries of "help, help" and frantic efforts to save the man.
Martin Philbrick, who lives nearby, said: "I passed the scene while the road was still cordoned off.
"A policeman told me the man unfortunately died, but said they were working on him with CPR for a long time.
"Another witness said they thought he'd collapsed at the wheel."
