An 89-year-old is to finally go under the knife more than four months after he first went to his doctor about the golf ball-sized lump on his head.
Last month we reported how George Hobbs had been sent away from The Railside Surgery, in Railway Street, Gillingham, with painkillers three times after complaining about the huge black growth which later turned out to be cancerous.
Now, following several more appointments including with plastic surgery specialists at Medway Maritime Hospital, the retired civil servant has been told the unsightly bulge will be removed at Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead, on Friday, July 5.
The concern is if it has grown down into his head as well as upwards more treatment might be needed.
Previously Mr Hobbs was told to make a formal complaint by Medway Clinical Commissioning Group about his treatment but when he phoned up he was told to instead write to NHS England, which he has now done.
He said: "I've been told to go down for next Friday morning and hopefully it will be sorted then.
"It's become extremely painful in the past few days but all my GP can tell me is to take co-codamol but that's not having much of an impact.
"In the last week has grown by between a quarter and half an inch."
He previously told the Medway Messenger how the mass had started to bleed leading to him sleeping on a folded up towel.
Mr Hobbs is also receiving treatment for bladder cancer.
