A middle-aged pervert who took photos of himself having sex with a vulnerable young girl has been jailed for 10 years.

The graphic snaps of Andrew Stevens and the victim were found on his mobile phone after his arrest.

The 51-year-old car valeter, of Glanville Road, Gillingham, admitted two offences of rape of a girl under 13, three of sexual activity with a child and one of taking indecent photos of a child.

His not guilty plea to inciting a child to engage in sexual activity was accepted.

A judge told Stevens after ordering him to unfold his arms: “By your conduct, you robbed her of her innocence as a child and will have caused enormous harm.”

His name will appear on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely and he will be barred from working with children and vulnerable adults.

Maidstone Crown Court heard he had an inappropriate relationship with the girl when she was 12.

He bought her clothes such as shorts and sent a message asking: “Would you like a baby?”

Because there were concerns about his behaviour a police officer and social worker visited the girl’s school and she revealed Stevens had raped her.

She told how he took her to his house, ripped off her clothes, pushed her down and briefly had sex with her before she managed to kick him off.

Prosecutor Daniel Stevenson said Stevens took pictures of the girl when she was naked and asked her to wear the clothing he bought.

When his phone was examined it showed it was used to “document his offending behaviour”, Mr Stevenson told Maidstone Crown Court on Friday.

Messages from the girl indicated there was “agreement” to sexual activity, but she could not consent in law because of her age.

She did not make a victim statement but told of feeling disgusted and suffering panic attacks.

Mr Stevenson said Stevens claimed he used a condom but the pictures showed he did not.

Michael Haynes, defending, said Stevens did not have the pictures for “nefarious purposes”.
“He is adamant nothing like this will happen again,” he said.

“He accepts he is one hundred per cent he is to blame. He appreciates the damage he has done to the victim and his own family.

“He is struggling to come to terms with the inevitable sentence he will receive.”

Judge Adele Williams said Stevens would have confused the girl and caused her distress.

“The aggravating feature here is you took indecent photographs of her,” she told him.

“I have no doubt you continue to pose a risk to young female children.”
