Plans for a new boxing gym have been unveiled.
If approved a multi-use gym, which includes a ring, will be built on land behind the playground in Shipwrights Avenue, Chatham.
It will be called St Mary's Boxing Club and proposes to become a "community hub". It will also have seven parking spaces.
The amateur boxing club was established in 1926 and has a site in Street End Road, Chatham.
In a design and access statement on the planning application to Medway Council, the club's current venue was considered "not suitable".
It was described as a "cold building, unaccommodating for less-able users and not an environment for fitness, health and learning for the younger community".
The design and access statement concluded: "With this scheme, we are looking to introduce a central community hub for an otherwise less-affluent area.
"We wish to provide a place of security and community, where local residents can come and use the facilities and help them engage with an activity which will have a positive impact on their lives.
"As this statement reflects, the proposed development is within a sustainable location and in accordance with national government guidance based on the local plan being somewhat antiquated.
"Therefore, we consider that planning permission should be granted for the attached scheme."
