Plans have been put forward for a new budget supermarket.
Lidl announced in March it wanted to build a new store in Gillingham as part of a multi-million pound investment in the area.
The German supermarket chain has now applied for planning permission to build on a disused site in Medway Road.
The plans include a car park, and solar panels which will be installed on the roof.
The company exchanged contracts with the University of Kent in order to secure the site.
Speaking when the plans were announced, Lidl’s regional head of property, Paul Mason said: "We are delighted to be bringing a new store to Medway Road, which marks another milestone in our ambitious store expansion programme.
"We’ve seen incredible demand for Lidl stores across the country and look forward to submitting the planning application for our new store in Gillingham very soon."
Medway Council's planning committee is expected to make a decision by the end of October.
